Thrilling 'Are You Smarter Than a Gaston County Fifth Grader?' Event Raises $50,000

This year's Are You Smarter Than a Gaston County Fifth Grader?” held February 8 at Stuart W. Cramer High School showcased the knowledge and teamwork of local schools and community business partners, generating excitement and raising approximately $50,000 for teacher grants.

The Gaston County Educational Foundation organized the event, which featured spirited competition among schools and their business partners.

Hawks Nest STEAM Academy and their business partner, Carolina Chiropractor Plus, claimed first place, impressing everyone with their expertise.  Pleasant Ridge Elementary, partnered with GSM Services, and Gardner Park Elementary, teamed up with Tindol Subaru, took second place. North Belmont Elementary and its partner, Gastonia East Rotary Club, secured third place. 

In addition to the top winners, several teams earned special recognition. Team Spirit honors went to Belmont Central Elementary and Belmont Eye Associates as well as McLean Funeral Directors and.  Best Theme was awarded to Clariant Corporation and Rankin Elementary, while Most Creative Team went to Firestone Textiles and Fibers and Sadler Elementary.

The funds raised will support grants benefiting teachers, enhancing educational opportunities for students throughout Gaston County.

The event highlighted the strong collaboration between schools and local businesses, emphasizing the community’s commitment to education.
